When looking up a journey by train from Salzburg to Graz, most of the journey options will involve making a connection between Railjet trains in Wien, but there are direct trains available.

The discounted tickets are the 'Sparscheine' tickets and they can be booked online up until the day of departure, but they can't be booked at stations, so booking last minute at the station is always more expensive.
Trains departing at different times can be cheaper than others leaving on the same day, so you may need to look through the day's departures to find the cheapest fares.

Trust us, despite the lack of images, this is one of Austria's most scenic long distance train journeys.
As the train heads south from Salzburg to Bischofshofen, it travels through a spectacular river valley.
Then from Bischofshofen, virtually all the way to Leoben the train travels through a series of alpine valleys, with mountain views from both sides of the train.
Why don't we have any images? Well on our most recent travel itinerary, we travelled to Austria mainly so that we could take this journey, but a storm blew in on the day, so there was nothing to see except rain drops.
