Heading to beautiful Bergamo from Rome by train has recently become a lot more straightforward due to the introduction of these direct trains; which are usually scheduled to depart from Roma Termini daily at 09:50; 17:20 and 18:50 (this final direct train of the day also at Roma Tiburtina station).

The alternative connections:

When you look up this journey on the ticket agents, most of the journey options you will see involve taking a train from Rome to Milan - and then connecting at Milano Centrale station into a train on to Bergamo.
The connecting time in Milano Centrale will typically be around 10 minutes, so ideal if the train from Roma arrives on time, but f you do take the indirect option, the tickets will be valid on any train on to Bergamo.

Trenitlalia is the national rail operator in Italy and in addition to its cheaper types of ticket; it also typically offers other discounts available to non-Italians, which include:

  • Group Offers, provides for a discount of up to 50% when 3-5 Adults travel together.
  • Family Offer for when groups of 2 - 5 people are travelling together and at least one of the party is a aged 11 and under.
  • The Children Free Offer is available for journeys by Frecce trains, when groups of 2 - 5 people are travelling together and at least one of the party is a aged 15 and under.
    Those aged 15 and under travel for free, but the Adults will need to purchase full price 'Base' tickets.

All of the these direct trains travel along the high speed route between Roma and Bologna, but after Bologna, they take two different routes, but of these have similar journey times and one route isn't more scenic than the other either.
The departures at 09:50 and 18:50 travel via Verona and they reverse direction on departure from Verona Porta Nuova station.
The departure at 17:20 continues along the high speed to Milano Centrale station, where it reverses direction.
