How to take a rail journey from Florence/Firenze to Torino/Turin
A sequence of three high speed railways enables high speed trains to rush from Florence/Firenze to Turin/Torino.
This high speed route is shared by 'Frecce' services operated by the national rail operator, Trenitalia, and competing Italo services
These two high speed (AV) services are the only direct trains from Florence to Turin.

Arriving in Turin:
These trains will call at Torino Porta Susa station before going on to terminate at Torino Porta Nuova station.
It's worth checking which of these stations in Torino will suit you best before making a booking.
Both stations are on the Torino Metro, so if your final destination is adjacent to a metro station, the quickest option will be to leave the train at Torino Porta Susa.

Not all trains will be available 4 months ahead, but all trains should be available if you look around 14 weeks ahead.
The high speed (AV) train service between Firenze/Florence and Torino/Turin is provided by;
(1) These Frecce trains operated by Trenitalia.
(2) Alternative Italo trains which compete with the Frecce trains on this route.
Tickets for these Trenitalia Frecce trains are placed on sale around 4 months in advance, but the Italo train tickets are made available around 5 months ahead.
Trenitalia does not sell tickets for the Italo trains - and Italo does not sell tickets for the Trenitalia trains.
If you're booking no more than 4 months ahead and have no particular preference for the train that you will be taking, the price and departure times of the Frecce and Italo trains can be directly compared on Trainline or Omio, though look out for the fact that both of these services will charge a booking fee.
Trains departing at different times can be cheaper than others leaving on the same day, so you may need to look through the day's departures to find the cheapest fares.
Rail Pass Users:
If you will be travelling with a valid Eurail or InterRail pass, you will need to reserve prior to boarding these trains, either at the station (using a Trenitalia ticket machine or ticket desk) OR by booking them online.

To avoid paying the €10 rail pass reservation fees, the best option is to take this route:
- Depart Firenze S.M.Novella at 11:28 for Pisa Centrale
- Take the 13:02 Intercity train from from Pisa Centrale, which is due in to Torino Porta Nuova station at 17:40.

These trains reverse direction on departure from Milano Centrale station.
Apart from the part of the journey when the train will be threading its way through the suburbs of Milan, these trains are will be using high speed lines for the entire journey.
From Florence to Bologna, virually the entire journey is in tunnels, then on from Bologna the train will race across a flat landscape, so the only thrilling aspects of this journey are the trains and the speeds they reach.
