Tickets for the train journey from Warszawa/Warsaw to Berlin are sold by both the Polish express train operator's website, PKP InterCity, and the DB website, provided by Germany's national train operator.

Booking Tickets on the PKP InterCity website:

Tickets tend to be cheaper on the PKP InterCity website, but you will need to use a currency converter to make the comparison with the DB website, as the ticket prices on PKP are only available in Polish zlotys.

The PKP website can be a tad quirky for first time users, so we have published a guide to what to look out for when using it.

In particular pay attention to the booking screen that's been highlighted here - if you don't tick the box you won't be booking the cheapest tickets available, at the price that will be shown for each departure.

Booking Tickets on the DB website:

On the DB Bahn booking site look for journeys that have:

- 0 in the Chg. column

- EC  in the Products column

Trains departing at different times can be cheaper than others leaving on the same day, so you may need to look through the day's departures to find the cheapest fares.

Our step-by-step guide to booking train tickets (and reservations) on the DB (German national railways) website is available HERE.

Travelling with a rail pass:

If you will be taking these trains and using an InterRail or Eurail Pass, you will need to make a reservation prior to boarding.

DB Bahn Guide

DB is the national railway operator in Germany, so its website can be used for booking journeys by German express trains; the ICE and IC trains and it doesn't charge booking fees.
It also sells tickets for journeys by direct trains on all international routes from Germany regardless of whether DB is operating the train service.

It also sells an extensive range of end-to-end journeys which involve making connections both within Germany and in neighboring countries, but journeys between Germany and Britain cannot be booked on DB.

A key feature of DB website worth keeping mind is that it offers 1st class ticket purchasers complimentary seat reservations on journeys both within and to/from Germany.

Seat reservations for daytime in both 1st and 2nd class can also be booked separately from tickets.

The usual final train of the day does not depart on Saturdays.

*For most of 2019 the journey time has been extended by around 50 mins as the direct route in Poland has been closed due to works to update the line.

Departing from Warszawa:

These trains commence the journey at Warszawa Wschodnia station, which is on the eastern side of the city centre.

They then call at Warszawa Centralna, the main station in the city, which is why we've used it for the orange button that can be clicked above.

After departing from Warszawa Centralna they will then call at Warszawa Zachodnia.

So check the location of the starting point of your journey, to see which of these three stations will suit you best.

Do remain on the train to its final stop at Berlin Hbf if you will be heading to stations in West Berlin - connect at Berlin Hbf into trains calling at Zoologischer Garten station**.**

If you have a rail pass it will be valid on the S-Bahn train, so you won't need to purchase an additional ticket(s) IF you will be travelling with a rail pass.

The train journey from Warzawa to Berlin:

This is a particularly dull journey, so having something to watch or read is highly recommended.

And for most of 2019 the journey will be more than an hour longer - as trains will be diverted due to work on the line on the direct route.
