Travel Information

Note that these trains to Poitiers depart from the Gare Montparnasse in Paris.

Final Destination: Bordeaux or La Rochelle or Poitiers

The departures with a journey time of 1hr 18mins (around 50% of all departures) are non-stop between Paris and Poitiers and they use the new high speed line; the LGV Bretagne-Pays de la Loire.
These fastest trains are not automatically more expensive.

The departures with a journey time of around 1hr 35mins still take the older route via St Pierre des Corps.
Poitiers is comparatively close to where the extension to the high speed line (the LGV Sud-Ouest) begins, hence the newly routed non-stop trains not being particularly faster.

Though if possible avoid the departures with a journey time of more than two hours, they're slower because they call at more stations and on departure from Paris they are joined to another train heading to Tours.
It's the separation of the two trains at St Pierre-des-Corps station which extends the journey time.

Friday = 16 x trains
Saturday = 12 x trains
Sunday =13 x trains per day

SNCF is the national rail operator in France and not so long ago it recently simplified both the range of tickets and the term and conditions of using them.
Therefore the cheapest tickets also become more flexible too.

Other improvements included a simple integration of travelling with bicycles and rail pass users being able to book reservations for national journeys, without paying booking fees.

Though a legacy of when SNCF sold international tickets under the Rail Europe branding is that OuiSNCF is available in multiple translations with the offerings on the site then tailored to international visitors to France.
However, some of the site's features, including the integration of mobility assistance into the booking path, are only available on the French language version.

Something else to look out for is that simplest way of travelling with tickets is to use the SNCF 'My Travel' phone app, so it's therefore often a good idea to book on the OuiSNCF mobile service.
