It also sells tickets for journeys by direct trains on all international routes from Germany regardless of whether DB is operating the train service.

It also sells an extensive range of end-to-end journeys which involve making connections both within Germany and in neighboring countries, but journeys between Germany and Britain cannot be booked on DB.

A key feature of DB website worth keeping mind is that it offers 1st class ticket purchasers complimentary seat reservations on journeys both within and to/from Germany.

Seat reservations for daytime in both 1st and 2nd class can also be booked separately from tickets.

Good to Know

Final Destination: Budapest* or Praha/Prag (German spelling) or Graz**

These trains normally depart from the lower level (tief) in Berlin Hbf.

**The first departure of the day, which is usually scheduled to depart from Berlin at 06:17 is now a new Railljet service which will be heading to Graz in Austria.

*Depart Berlin on the 09:16 train that will be heading to Budapest and you will be travelling on a train provided by Hungarian state railways (MAV).

Recently updated Czech trains should be used on the other departures.

--------------------------------------------------

These trains also call at: Berlin Südkreuz; Bad Schandau and Decin

Don't assume that you have to leave the train at Praha hl.n. - the main station in the city.

These trains first call at Praha-Holešovice and this station has easier connections (by tram) to some parts of the city, particularly by the river - including The King Charles Bridge.

Like Praha hl.n. it is also served by Line C of the Prague Metro and if your final destination in the city is along Line C, you'll have a quicker journey if you leave the train at Praha-Holešovice.

It takes more than 10 minutes for the trains to travel on to Praha hl.n so you can be on your way to your destination before these trains will have arrived there.

Good to Know

Final Destination: Munchen Hbf

All trains also call at: Frankfurt (Main) and Wurzburg

Note that these fastest trains from Koln/Cologne to Nurnberg depart from Köln Messe/Deutz station – located on the opposite bank of The Rhine to the city centre.

They don’t depart from the main city centre station, Köln Hbf.

If you want to travel direct by train from Koln Hbf to Nurnberg you can take the alternative slower trains - which also happen to take a more scenic route through The Rhine Valley.

These trains from Kolm Messe/Deutz travel on the high speed line between Seigburg/Bonn and Frankfurt Flughafen.

They also reverse direction on departure from Frankfurt (Main) Hbf.

If you are new to travelling by train in Germany, we recommend taking a look at our GermanTrain Travel Guide.
It is packed with info and useful links to help ensure you’ll have a stress-free trip.

This is a journey of five distinct phases:

  1. Until Siegburg/Bonn the first part of the journey is on a conventional railway.
  2. On departure from Siegburg/Bonn comes the part of the journey with a wow factor, when the train spends around 40 minutes racing along the rollercoaster that is the high speed line to Frankfurt Flughafen, at more than 280 km/h.
3. **The train will reverse direction on departure from Frankfurt (Main)** and then after Aschaffenburg comes the slowest, but most scenic part of the trip when the railway winds through the valleys. 4. The train will cross the River Main and then after a tunnel it will be on a high speed line for less than 15 minutes, but there are some nice views as the train crosses some long viaducts between yet more long tunnels. 5. On departure from Wurzburg the train will be on a conventional railway until it arrives in Nurnberg.
