The best option is to buy tickets at the station and hop on the next train.

At least 4 x trains an hour (the Regional-Tog trains) depart from Nørreport AND Osterport stations, so there's no need to head for København H in order to take a train to Roskilde.
If you're in Copenhagen/Kobenhavn city centre the quickest option will be to take a train from Nørreport.
