Online bookings open: up to eight weeks ahead (EC trains); 4 weeks ahead (RegioJet trains)

The train service between Praha/Prague and Bratislava is now split between:

1.     International EC trains which can be booked on the Czech national railways booking service CD.

Most of these trains are newly modernised Czech express trains (a few are provided by Hungarian state railways).

2.     Privately operated RegioJet trains, provided by one of the companies that now competes with the Czech national rail operator.

CD does not sell tickets for the Regiojet trains and RegioJet does not sell tickets for the EC trains, so you will have to compare times and prices on each booking site.

The RegioJet trains tend to be the equivalent of a few €s cheaper, and its booking screen shows the prices in €s if you use the English language version.

Prices are displayed in Czeck korunas (CZKs) on CD -  see our guide to booking tickets on the CD website.

*Bookings open around 8 weeks ahead on CD and around 4 weeks ahead on Regiojet, but you will only save the equivalent of a couple of €s if you book in advance.

Good to Know

An additional service has been added to this route, the final depature of the day is now a Railjet train, which is scheduled to depart from Praha hl.n. at 19:50.

When making a journey from Prague/Praha to Bratislava earlier in the day, travellers have a choice between EC trains (a mix of newly updated Czech and Hungarian international trains) and trains operated by Regiojet,

Both train services take the same route across Czechia and then over the border into Slovakia.

It's not a particularly beautiful journey, but when the trains travel between Chocen and Ceska Trebovba, east of Pardubice, this part of the trip is marked green for scenic, on the European Rail Map.

But when we last travelled this way, the weather was poor, hence the lack of photos.

Final Destination:
EC trains = Budapest or Bratislava hl.st
RegioJet = Bratislava Nové Mesto via Bratislava hl.st

All trains also call at: Brno
