SJ Guide

SJ is the national rail operator in Sweden, so journeys within Sweden can be booked online on its relatively simple to use ticketing service, which is convenient, as there are significant savings to be made on long-distance express journeys.
SJ now also sell tickets for journeys by Snalltaget trains, but not the MTR services which compete with SJ on the Stockholm to Gothenburg route.

SJ also sells tickets for journeys by train between Sweden and both Denmark and Norway.

Star Rating: **

This journey is delightful, but if you can, travel this way before 2021.
One of the many journey highlights, are the sea views that can currently be seen from the right of the train* (when facing the direction of travel) between Oslo and Ski.

But when the Follo line opens in around 2022, the trains will be diverted into what will be Norway's longest rail tunnel, for this part of the journey.

*The best views overall are from the right of the train.

Final destination: Helsingor

All trains also call at: CPH Lufthavn st/Copenhagen Airport; Norreport and Osterport

Between early July and mid-August there are also direct Snabbtag trains between Goteborg and Kobenhavn/Copenhagen.

These Oresundtag trains call at Nørreport and Østerport stations after they depart from København H station.

If you will be heading central Kobenhavn/Copenhagen or a station on the Kobenhaven Metro - including Kongens Nytorv (the closest station to Nyhavn) - the quickest and easiest option is to book tickets to Norreport and leave the train at that station.

The Journey:

From the left of the train there are occasional coastal views in Sweden.

The train will travel between Sweden and Denmark on the Oresund Line.

After departure from Malmo Hyllie station. the train will spend around 3 - 4 mins travelling across The Oresund Bridge.

Don't expect spectacular views from the bridge - though travelling across it will be a thrill for engineering fans.

Alternative route for rail pass users:

If you have a Eurail or InterRail pass valid in both Denmark and Sweden, an option is to take the train from Goteborg to Helsignoborg and then take the ferry from Helsingborg to Helsingor - connecting in Helsingor for trains on to Kobebnhavn/Copenhagen

During the day there are 4 x ferries per hour and 3 x trains per hour on to Kobemhavn - so it should be a stress free altermative and the end-2-end journey won't be much longer.

Eurail and InterRail passes are valid on the ferry.
