The trains usually depart from Budapest-Deli in odd hours only year round, but additional services operate on this route between late April and late September.
That's because Siofok is a popular resort town on the shores of Lake Balaton.
If you want to make a summer day trip from Budapest to Lake Balaton, Siofok has the most frequent train service from the capital, compared to any other town around the lake
Note that these trains depart from Deli station in Budapest and not from Keleti station - Deli station is the southern most terminus of Line 2 of the Budapest Metro.
Also IC trains aren't used for these direct trains between Budapest and Siófok.
Hungarian Railways (MAV) doesn't give a category to the trains that are used, meaning that seats can't be reserved - and these can busy trains, especially at summer weekends.
Though most of the trains on this route are more modern than those IC trains - they have Wi-fi, spaces for bikes and have both wheelchair spaces and compatible toilets.
