Book online from outside of Hungary and you will have to collect your ticket from a machine at Budapest-Nyugati station
Seat reservations are mandatory on these trains, so seats will automatically be assigned when booking tickets online or at the station.
Rail pass users need to reserve before boarding on Hungarian IC trains, reservations can be arranged at the ticket counters at Nyugati station.

Note that these trains depart from Nyugati station in Budapest and NOT from Keleti station.
Every two hours, in even hours, there are also slower trains from Budapest to Debrecen - they have a journey time of around three hours.
Tickets for those trains will be slightly cheaper, but seats can't be reserved.
However, the trains are more modern than these IC trains - they have Wi-fi, spaces for bikes and have both wheelchair spaces and compatible toilets.
