Travel summary:

On most departures only Standard Class (second class) is available on these trains, but don't assume because of that, that these are comparatively inferior trains.
Standard Class on these trains is comparatively comfortable and in ShowMeTheJourney's humble opinion is superior to the First Class offering of some UK trains, particularly those used on other commuter routes.
Most seats line up with the windows and have tables and power sockets available.

Though note that no catering is available on board, so take your own food and drink with you.

Chiltern Railways offers a 'Silver Service' on selected departures, but on the London <> Birmingham route that service is normally provided on these alternative trains.

Non-folding bikes can be usually be taken on board these trains, but they are not permitted on departures from London between 16-30 and 19:30, and on arrivals into London between 07:45 and 10:00
