Adelboden is one of the Swiss alpine resort towns which can be easily accessed by train from Zurich, it has particularly good access from Zurich Aiport.

Change trains in: Bern
There are no direct trains between Zurich and Frutigen station, from where the buses on to Adelboden can be easily accessed.
There is an hourly connection at Bern from the IC trains on route IC 1 heading from both Zurich Flughafen and Hb stations to Geneve-Aeroport.
The connecting time between trains at Bern station will be around 11 mins, so making the connection is virtually guaranteed and it should be relatively stress-free.
Though note that Frutigen may not be included on the departure information you will see at Bern station.
You're looking for the RE train heading to Brig or Domodossola that is calling at Thun and Spiez.
*Departing from Zurich HB (not Zurich Flughafen/Airport) between 15:00 and 17:35:
Set off from Zurich between these times and there is second connection available per hour.
Between 15:00 and 17:35 the IC trains heading to Brig also have connections at Spiez into commuter trains that will terminating at Frutigen.

You may need to search through the departures to find these 'Supersaver' tickets using the ‘earlier’ and ‘later’ button. so try and be flexible with your departure and arrival times.

To Adelboden:
SBB will sell tickets for the end2end journey which includes the trains to Frutigen and the bus on to Adelboden.
If you will be heading to Adelboden then booking the end2end journey with SBB, either online or at the station in Zurich/Zurich Flughafen is the best option, as the connection between the train and bus at Frutigen station/bahnhof is tightly timed.

These are the exppess IC trains which are non-stop from Zurich to Bern.
Final Destination: Geneve-Aeroport (on route IC 1) or Brig (on route IC 8)
The double deck SBB IC trains are used on this route - the brand new LD/Twindexx trains should now be operating on some departures that are heading towards Geneve.
These trains use the 'higher' speed line between Olten and Bern.
From Zurich HB station:
These IC trains usually depart from gleis (platforms/tracks) 31 and 32 in the lower level part of the station.
Note that these trains should arrive in Zurich HB station around 7 mins before they are due to depart, so keep an eye on the departure time and don't rush to board by the nearest door (if you don't have to)
From Zurich Flughafen/Airport:
These trains depart from Zurich Flughafen/Airport station 11 mins before they depart from the city centre station, Zurich HB.
Final Destination: Brig or Domodossola
Post Bus route 230 connects Frutigen station/bahnhof with the Adelboden-Lenk ski resort.
The buses are timed to connect with these Lotschberger trains and the late afternoon/evening commuter trains between Spiez and Frutigen.
The bus journey on to Adelboden takes 32 minutes.
