SJ Guide

SJ is the national rail operator in Sweden, so journeys within Sweden can be booked online on its relatively simple to use ticketing service, which is convenient, as there are significant savings to be made on long-distance express journeys.
SJ now also sell tickets for journeys by Snalltaget trains, but not the MTR services which compete with SJ on the Stockholm to Gothenburg route.

SJ also sells tickets for journeys by train between Sweden and both Denmark and Norway.

Good to Know

Works are being carried out on the railway route between Stockholm and Olso.

Hence for the time being, the number of direct trains between the two cities has been reduced from it's usual level of service - and the Swedish IC trains have taken over from the Snabbtag trains.

However, due to the works on the line, these departure times are subject to alteration, particularly at weekends.

Between Dec 15th and the summer timetable being introduced, departures of these direct trains from Stockholm will USUALLY scheduled to be at 09:06 and 15:28 on Mon-Sat and at 08:00 on Sundays.
Though on all days of the week additional departures will be available which involve making a connection between trains.

Final Destination: Oslo

All trains also call at: Kongsvinger

Type of Scenery: River, Forest

Star Rating: **

For most of the journey the train passes through a pleasant, but not outstandingly beautiful landscape, but there are views over numerous views over lakes from both sides of the train.

These trains no longer call at Liilestrom, if you're heading to Oslo Gardermoen Airport it’s now easier to make the connection between trains at Oslo S station.

If you will be planning a Scandinavian rail itinerary, then on Monday-Fridays, the departure times in this direction, are more comfortable than when travelling in the opposite direction from Oslo to Stockholm.
