Book early and save: No*

As can be seen above the high speed train service between Madrid Chamartin and Segovia is split between Avant and Alvia trains.
BUT, the Avant trains tend to be cheaper, they're usually around half the price of the Alvia trains.

*On this comparatively short route it seems tickets will cost the same price if you book last minute at the station - you won't save by booking in advance for journeys by the Alvia trains, despite discounted tickets usually being available for those trains.

If you are heading off to Segovia on a day trip from Madrid there is USUALLY an Avant train which departs at 10:15.
However, it's worth looking up this journey online before you head to the station, that 10:15 train is the only mid-morning Avant train.

The alternative Alvia train, which departs at 08:50, is usually more expensive.

To see trains heading to both stations in the town on the Renfe booking service, select 'Segovia (Todas)' as the destination.

Seat Reservations:

Seats will automatically be assigned when booking tickets for this journey.

Rail Pass Users:

Despite this being a comparatively short journey, Rail pass users will need to be pay a reservation fee prior to boarding.

If you will be using the type of pass restricted to a set number of travel days, then our advice is to try and not use it for a day trip from Madrid to Segovia and buy tickets.
Use the day's allocation to add a more distant destination to your itinerary instead.
