From Glasgow Queen Street to Dundee

Final Destination: Aberdeen (the Inter7City trains); Dundee (the Turbostar trains)

All trains also call at: Stirling and Perth

All of these trains are operated by ScotRail and it now mainly uses its dedicated Inter7City trains on this route.
On Mondays to Saturday an Inter7City train departs hourly, but in some hours there is an additional departure, which comprises a slightly slower Turbostar train.

Mon - Sat = 1 or 2 x trains per hour
Sunday = 11 x trains

On Sundays the first train doesn't depart until after 09:30 and after 17:45 on Sundays there is only a departure every other hour.

Tickets

Book Early and Save: No

ScotRail does not place discounted Advance tickets on sale for train journeys from Glasgow to Dundee, so you wil pay the same price per departure whether you book ahead online, or purchase tickets at the station just prior to boarding.

Though you can save money by travelling at less busy times when Off-Peak tickets will be available, so on this route you can save money by not departing from Glasgow between 16:20 and 18:20 when Mondays to Fridays are working days.
Because if you do depart Glasgow at those times only the more expensive type of Anytime tickets will be available

ScotRail offers ticketing deals when Adults travel with children or in groups
Though there's no need to book ahead online to obtain these discounts - you will be charged the same prices when booking these ticket at the station just before boarding .
If you will be booking these deals at the station it can be less confusing to book in person at a ticket counter, rather than using a ticket machine.

The journey by train from Glasgow to Dundee has three distinct phases.

(1) Once the train has escaped from Glasgow, over to the left the landscape is dominated by the hills which straddle the horizon. a preview of what's to come.
(2) Between Stirling and Perth the railway passes through those hills.
(3) Then the railway line is on the north bank of the River Tay between Perth and Dundee - so the views of the river are over to the right.
