The historic heart of Modena is a 12 - 20 min walk from Modena train station.
The best route to take won't be particularly obvious, but go straight ahead out of the station crossing the forecourt, and take the side street down towards the main road, the Viale Monte Kosica.
When you reach this main road, look up and you will see a tall chimney in the distance, with a large red building to the right, in front of which will be a modern artwork resembling a clutch of magic wands.
Ahead of you, along a pedestrian area, you will see a statue of a horse, that's situated by the base of the chimney.
Take the route passed the horse (slightly strange but go with it) and keep going straight ahead to the city centre.
Alternatively take bus routes 11 or 11A towards Zodiaco, this bus line has a stop outside the entrance to the Duomo, cathedral.
