Many trains heading to/from Budapest Keleti station also call at Budapest Kelenfold train station (Kelenföld vasútállomás)
Keleti station is closer to the city centre as Kelenfold station is located towards the suburbs.
However, Kelenfold has easier access to the city centre than Keleti station - particularly if you have heavy luggage etc.

Kelenfold has been modernised in recent years to provide easy access to Line 4 of the Budapest Metro.
Unlike at Keleti, the access to the Metro at Kelenfold is step free for all travellers.

Tickets for the Metro can be purchased from the purple and white ticket machines (not the yellow machines).
The Metro machines accept coins and credit/debit cards.

Line 4 has stations at Szent Gellért tér (adjacent to the Gellert baths), Fovam Ter (near the food market and Kalvin Ter in the city centre - near the National Museum of Hungary.

Connections are available at Kalvin Ter on to Line 3, which has a station in the heart of the city at Deák Ferenc tér.

Line 4 also serves Keleti station, but you can save time by making the connections to/from the metro at Kelenfold.
That's because the trains heading for Keleti station from Kelenfold station, take around 12-15 mins to reach their final destination.
So by the time you'd be leaving the train at Keleti, you could already be in Budapest city centre.
